Het Amsterdams Kleibedrijf is a professional ceramics studio. In our large studio in Amsterdam West, you’ll find four beautiful, spacious, and bright workshop spaces, as well as a cozy terrace overlooking the Houthavens. In our large studio in Amsterdam North (opening in September), you’ll find a large, bright workshop space in the heart of the vibrant Hamerkwartier.
In both studios, we offer an inspiring workspace for creatives. Both West and North are led by a passionate collective of ceramicists – a group of makers driven to share knowledge and grow together. Our professional instructors, along with a team of experienced assistants, create a learning environment where everyone feels welcome and supported.
Fun is our top priority. We share our expertise within our collective by offering courses, workshops, and exclusive masterclasses with both national and international ceramicists. With their guidance, you can develop your own techniques and take your skills to the next level.
We continuously evolve by experimenting with new techniques, clay types, and glazes. In our studios, you’ll have access to all the necessary equipment to work independently, whether it’s throwing, hand-building, casting, or sculpting. We provide you with the space and support to take your creativity further. It’s a great way to express your creativity without it having to be overly complicated. You are most welcome!

A Sustainable Studio
Recycling and upcycling are essential practices in our studio and have become integral parts of our workflow. This helps us minimize waste as much as possible.
Reusing Clay
In our studio, everyone recycles their own clay. Even the pieces created by students that aren’t fired are recycled. Recycling clay is a labor-intensive process: soft and hard clay are first mixed together into a solid, workable mass. This is then processed in a special machine, a pugmill, making the clay ready to use again on the wheel.
Reusing Glaze Residue
In addition to reusing clay scraps, we also recycle glaze residue. Glaze is considered chemical waste and harmful to the environment. To mitigate this, we have a special container under our sink to collect glaze residue from rinsing. This residue is then mixed with colourants and sieved. We make testers using the resulting glaze and adjust it as needed. The colors produced are unique—each time we empty the residue container, we create a new glaze color with surprising effects.

Education, development, and growth are core values for us, and they are key objectives of our studio. We are committed to contributing to society in this way. Through our MBO-level 4 program, we welcome eager and motivated trainees who bring a fresh perspective to our studio and our methods. They also have the opportunity to grow by learning about entrepreneurship and/or designing ceramic products. We have the knowledge and expertise in-house, and we are excited to share it with these young MBO students.
